The cylinder known as ‘unvented’ is not very difficult hard to spot, as long as you know what you are looking for. Initially they are always made from copper. They will mostly be covered by an insulation that can either be fibreglass or a foam type of material. It is fitted with a pipe outlet at the top that slowly moves upwards in a diagonally horizontal angle to the cylinder. The pipework then splits to form a tee, with one facing upwards and the other facing downwards. Follow the pipework and you reach a vessel that stores cold water. The pipe terminates above the vessel. The arrangement is that water fills the pipework, it will return back to the cold water storage cylinder. Now if there is a vent pipe fitted, you are fitted with a standard ‘vented’ hot-water cylinder. If there is not, then it is more than likely that are you will have an unvented cylinder. Barking Plumbers are trained to know systems.
Which has the features below:
1). The unvented type will normally be a thin metal jacket rather than the covering of fiberglass or foam materials. You very rarely can see its insulation. A Barking Plumber knows the differences.
2). It will have a flat top, or an expansion vessel is in the vicinity.
3). There are a bunch of valves that are part of the cylinder’s structure or the expansion vessel.
). A Tundish is nearby the unvented cylinder. There may be a gap in the pipework so any water in there can be seen flowing through it. There is usually no sign of water in this gap, however if one of its safety devices has cut in, the chances are that you will see water, running or dripping through it, so you need to call a professional G3 plumber straight away.
Note: The Tundish is a type of valve.
