A valve exists that can be used in place of the usual siphonage valve on your toilet. This valve can be fitted by Barking Plumbers . This valve is pretty much like a very large non-return valve. This will allow air to enter your system but will not allow (foul air) from escaping into the atmosphere around your toilet. So, when a negative pressure exists inside the drainage system, these open in preference to the water being sucked out from the trap. Air admittance valves are available in a whole range of sizes and sometimes the main discharge stack itself is terminated with this type of valve perhaps in the roof space. This fitting is generally used where there are two soil stacks within the same building or where there is a collection of buildings that are in close proximity to each other. The fitting of this type of valve actually overcomes the need to run the highest point of the discharge stack out through the roof. This ensures that there is no additional work required for tiles etc. and it also makes sure that rainwater is not able to enter the building. An air admittance valve should always be fitted above the spill-over level of the appliance (the spill-level is the highest possible water level of the nearest adjacent appliance). A Barking Plumber is familiar with this system. If this is not done and blockage occurs in the pipe, this fitting will be subject to a backup of water which will result in the valve not remaining in a watertight state. Finally, if theses valves are fitted in quite exposed locations for example a loft, they will need to be well insulated to make sure that they do not freeze up because there is a considerable amount of condensation build up in the pipework.
